The Bay Leaf Story


 


 

 

The Bay Leaf arose from the need to fill restaurant space at 120 Park Street in Traverse City, Michigan during the late autumn of 2010. Owner Dan Kelly, known throughout the area for his successful involvement in the restaurant industry as executive chef and restaurateur, sought out help from long-time friend Dennis Fitzpatrick. Previous owner of Traverse City’s Wine Country Market and respected for his impressive wine knowledge, Dennis assumed the role of General Manager. Together, Dan and Dennis began the process that would culminate in The Bay Leaf.

 

Through friendship and experience, Dan and Dennis created the vision of a restaurant that would offer a warm and inviting atmosphere, a well-rounded wine list and excellent food for downtown Traverse City. To make vision reality, Dennis brought Adam McMarlin, previous Chef de Cuisine of Farmhouse Café in San Diego, California to Traverse City to be Executive Chef of The Bay Leaf. With his distinct style of simple yet elegant rustic cuisine, Adam was the perfect ingredient for the new restaurant.

 

By sourcing locally and supporting farmers who maintain respect for quality meats and produce, Adam creates sophisticated cuisine while offering guests the purity and wholesomeness of simple food at reasonable prices. Influenced largely by European culinary styles, Adam offers Traverse City his signature love of seasonal, rustic cuisine through his ever-changing menu and daily specials. Combined with an expansive wine list boasting over fifty wines by the glass, a beer list that emphasizes a broad range of microbrews, and a genuine and knowledgeable staff, The Bay Leaf provides Traverse City with a restaurant that adheres to the standards of excellency Northern Michigan’s culinary community has acquired over recent years.
